Thirsty Thursday

See, back in the day, Thursday was one of the biggest nights to go out and drink at the bars when I was in college and all the drinks were only $3.  Now a days, I'm lucky if I can get my butt out of the house for a workout after a long, stressful day!  And thirsty Thursday is now what I do when I chug water after running in the heat :)

I'm motivated right now because I'm excited to get back into the running habit plus I ate a few too many mega stuffed oreos tonight (why did I even buy them?!).  So here I am dressed in not the most flattering outfit but the shorts avoid my legs from chaffing and the shirt is cool and comfy!

My training schedule said to walk for 15 minutes today since it's an active recovery day but I'm used to walking way more than that so I ended up out there for about an hour.  I also couldn't help myself but run juuust a little.  I did about 20 minutes of walk 1 minute run 1 minute.  I needed to get rid of some extra energy and frustration from my day and it worked very well.

Hmm to the left, cloudy, to the right, sunny...

Two quick things - 1. whyy why why does my Garmin have to take absolutely forever to find where I am?  I hate standing there waiting for it to find me and then I get impatient and start walking and my type A personality can't stand that I'm not getting credit for my activity!  2. why are there cats EVERYWHERE?  Maybe it was just the neighborhood I was in but I saw FOUR cats lying in driveways looking dead until they peaked their little heads up to look at me.  I've never really heard of letting your cats roam around outside but whatever works.

Back home again!  Cleaning up the kitchen before I head to bed.  Happy Friday Eve!

Sunrise Love

One of my favorite things about spring and summer is the longer days.  I LOVE that I can get up just before 6 and the sun is already coming up.  Makes my workouts much more enjoyable!  I also found that my parents neighborhood is just a skip, hop, and jump away from my apartments so when I get into my really long runs I can just run my little legs over to their neighborhood!

I got my second run for the week in this morning.  The schedule said 18 minutes following the 15 sec run/15 sec walk interval.  I have such a hard time keeping my pace steady!  Every time it's time to run I want to sprint but I'm trying to build a solid pace to go from.  Walked a little afterwards to cool down.

Enjoy your day!

Happy Tuesday

Any work week that starts off with Tuesday instead of Monday is a good week in my book!  This morning I got up and went to the gym to work on my upper body.  I'm going to lay off the legs since I'll be doing more running.  I want to try to stay as injury free as possible.  Although, now my upper body is aching but at least I can run, haha!

Today was an off, walking day.  The schedule said about 15 minutes but I'm used to walking waayy more than that so I did 45 mins and just about 2.7 miles according to Map My Run.  Sometimes it's more fun to just get out there without all the equipment on and check what you did afterwards.

Still loving my new Saucony birthday shoes!  Can't wait for my Gymboss to arrive sometime in the next couple days so I can do my intervals easier.  Bring on the rest of the week!

First Run, Check!

Let me clarify, first run of my pre-training, check!  For about 6 months I've been focusing my efforts on strength training and very little on cardiovascular other than walking.  I LOVE to walk but the urge to hop into a run tempted me all the time until I reminded myself I haven't ran in a long time and probablyy shouldn't just start running out of no where.  Well I finally found a running group that interests me that starts from the basics and works all the way up to the Donna full marathon in February.  My basic fitness level is way better than it ever was when I was running in the past but I really want to start from the bottom to ensure that I'm training efficiently and building a strong pace without getting ahead of myself.

The program is based off of Jeff Galloway's training method of running intervals.  Run walking 3 times a week including a long run on the weekend with the group.

They gave us so many goods in the first session!  I even got one of Jeff's books for free and he autographed it - amazing moment for me :) But that wasn't as amazing as running WITH Jeff Galloway the first day on training.  I was in heaven!

After I got home I couldn't stop talking about how excited I was about the program and convinced my mom she needed to do the program, too.  So Sunday morning my mom and I got outside and did 15 minutes run/walk with a 15/15 sec interval.  She did AWESOME!  We also walked a little after to cool down.  Once we got back we completely convinced my Dad he needed to do it also so the three of us went out to do the same run/walk.  I was so proud having my parents out there running!!  And I know it made them feel good so I'm happy they joined in.

I never thought I'd even dream it but I'm seriously considering training for my first full marathon.  If I can stick to the program and follow training how he does it I really think it's possible.  I'm going to spend some time looking at the races I want to complete and make my final decision in the next few days!

Happy Memorial Day!
